HANOI, Vietnam (Sept. 4, 2018)--To celebrate this year’s Mid-autumn Festival, the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is unveiling a mooncake gift set featuring nostalgic drawings by the award-winning Vietnamese graphic novelist and illustrator, Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Designed to conjure up the carefree days of childhood, each red and white mooncake box is adorned with intricate sketches. Phong’s drawings capture the spirit of the holiday as children parade in the streets with paper lanterns alongside a lion dance. This narrative portrait was inspired by the artist’s own childhood memories.
Born and raised in Hanoi, Phong is well known for his often surreal sketches of the city. The young comic artist has won a number of international accolades throughout his career, including the Special Jury Prize for Best Artworks at the Asian Youth Animation & Comics Contest in 2011 as well as the Silver Award at the annual International MANGA Awards in 2016.
This year’s mooncakes at the Metropole include classic varieties such as lotus seed and young rice, black sesame with coconut, green bean with salted egg yolk, and caramel with dried fig. The Metropole is also debuting a new twist on the festive treats with the new flavour, pistachio and coffee.
Each elegant set contains six individually wrapped mooncakes in six assorted flavours, priced at VND 1,850,000++ per box. The Metropole’s mooncakes are available for sale at L’Epicerie du Metropole from August 20 to Sept. 24, 2018.
